Olly Carter, Men’s Coach: Helping Capable Men at Crossroads Move Through Fear
I’m a men’s coach for capable men stuck at a crossroads and scared time is running out. I help them move through fear, choose what they want, and start living a life they’re proud of, using Play, Honest Conversation, and Grounded Coaching.
Dad to Bear. Husband to Steffi.
I’m living proof that the work works: I walked away from chaos, rebuilt my life, and now I help other men do the same.
The Car Crash Years
On paper, I did everything “right”: uni, Masters, London corporate surveying job, buying a house at 27, long commutes, office politics.
Inside, it felt like a slow-motion car crash.
I failed exams, lost confidence, watched relationships collapse, and felt like a stranger in my own life.
I bounced through over 60 jobs and 80+ moves across cities, mountains, coasts, and countries: investment banks, surveying firms, luxury villas, ski chalets, organic farms, surf shops, yoga centres, New Forest retreats, and building sites.
I was constantly reinventing, but never really arriving.
The Patterns Underneath
I didn’t have the skills growing up to see what was happening.
No adult gave me real two-way dialogue. My dreams stayed hidden, my voice crushed silent, teaching me to hide instead of share.
When I finally stopped long enough to look, I saw the patterns clearly:
Escapism
Unsustainable freedom
Financial dependence
Entitlement, victimhood, blame, shame, guilt
Letting my past dictate my present and future
Fighting for my limitations and letting self-worth crumble
The hardest part was realising there was no one to blame but me.
That’s also where the power is.
No more excuses.
Yes, life can be brutal, but it doesn’t get to define who we become now.
I was living from fear, not from what I actually wanted.
Remembering Play
The times I felt most myself were always when play was central:
Surfing, skateboarding, rugby, bands
Art, photography, making films
Ski seasons, mountain adventures, padel
Mischief with mates
Movement, creativity, connection, and adventure weren’t just hobbies.
They were how I accessed my essence.
When I forgot that, everything dulled. No amount of “success” could shift the dial.
That’s why Play is now a core part of how I work with men.
What I Offer Men Like You
Out of all that chaos, my work became simple.
I work with capable men at crossroads, when life no longer fits but the next chapter isn’t clear, to help them:
Move through the fear that’s kept them stuck
Choose what they really want (fun, happiness, priorities, direction)
Reconnect with play as fuel, not a frivolous extra
Restore self-trust and self-respect
Move forward grounded, honest, and sustainable
I create the conditions where clarity, momentum, purpose, and play emerge naturally, so you build a life that actually feels like yours.
My approach combines Play, Honest Conversation, and Grounded Coaching, not hype, not grind, but real, human work.
